So I have reached that point… the one that anytime you fast (especially a longer one) you hit… where you really do not feel like fasting anymore. You are tired, your flesh is getting pushed to the edge, the end still seems far away (you look at your calendar and realize that next week at this time you will still be fasting) and you just do not feel like doing this anymore.
So what do you do? It’s simple: keep going!
Why is this so important?
- Because you made a commitment to the LORD
- Because you have your flesh right where you want it – you are showing it that Jesus is LORD and that it isn’t the boss
- Because you are developing perseverance – a character trait that is vital to doing anything in the Kingdom
- Because your sacrifice is a tangible sign of your love for Jesus
- Because through your fasting you are sowing seeds and you will reap a harvest
- Because God has something special for you and if you cut out early you very well may miss part of it.
So how do you keep going?
- Ask God for strength and expect Him to give it to you
- Call a brother/sister in Christ and get them to pray with you
- Take some time to meditate on all that Jesus went through for you, and then compare that to what you are tempted to bail out on
- Take some time to worship, or soak in His presence and be renewed
- Go to bed (things always look better in the morning)
So…. I’m going to bed and I’m going to keep fasting.
