MESSAGE NOTES: Crossroads #4

Pre-Message: Coronavirus Situation (John G. Lake Story)

I was ministering one time where the bubonic plague was raging. You could not hire people for a thousand dollars to bury the dead. At such times the government has to take hold of the situation. But I never took the disease.

Now watch the action of the law of life. Faith belongs to the law of life. Faith is the very opposite of fear. Faith has the opposite effect in spirit, and soul, and body. Faith causes the spirit of man to become confident. It causes the mind of man to become restful, and positive. A positive mind repels disease.

Consequently, the emanation of the Spirit destroys disease germs. And because we were in contact with the Spirit of life, I and a little Dutch fellow with me went out and buried many of the people who had died from the bubonic plague. We went into the homes and carried them out, dug the graves and put them in.

Sometimes we would put three or four in one grave.

We never took the disease. Why? Because of the knowledge that the law of life in Christ Jesus protects us. That law was working. Because of the fact that a man by the action of his will, puts himself purposely in contact with God, faith takes possession of his heart, and the condition of his nature is changed. Instead of being fearful, he is full of faith. Instead of being absorbent and drawing everything to himself, his spirit repels sickness and disease. The Spirit of Christ Jesus flows through the whole being, and emanates through the hands, the heart, and from every pore of the body…

During that great plague that I mentioned, they sent government ship with supplies and a corps of doctors. One of the doctors sent for me, and said, “What have you been using to protect yourself? Our corps has this preventative and that, which we use as protection, but we concluded that if a man could stay on the ground as you have and keep ministering to the sick and burying the dead, you must have a secret. What is it?”

I answered, “Brother that is the ‘law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.’ I believe that just as long as I keep my soul in contact with the living god so that His Spirit is flowing into my soul and body, that no germ will ever attach itself to me, for the Spirit of God will kill it.” He asked, “Don’t you think that you had better use our preventative?” I replied, “No, but doctor I think that you would like to experiment with me. If you will go over to one of these dead people and take the foam that comes out of their lungs after death, then put it under the microscope you will see masses of living germs. You will find they are alive until a reasonable time after a man is dead. You can fill my hand with them and I will keep it under the microscope, and instead of these germs remaining alive, they will die instantly.” They tried it and found it was true. They questioned, “What is that?” I replied, “That is ‘the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.’ When a man’s spirit and a man’s body are filled with the blessed presence of God, it oozes out of the pores of your flesh and kills the germs.”

When dealing with the Coronavirus situation we want to be wise in our choices but we also want to make sure we put our trust and faith in God!

The Doctrine of Balaam

I want to remind you of several things:

  • You have destiny/purpose/calling over your life
  • You are called to the purposes of God in our generation
  • You are a RESCUE SHIP Christian and we are a RESCUE SHIP Church
  • I’m not here to entertain you today, I’m here to equip you… let’s get to work

Revelations 2:14 (ESV) –  But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice sexual immorality.

To properly understand the context of this verse we need to look at the story of Balaam and Balak.

Numbers 22:1-13 (NLT) – 1 Then the people of Israel traveled to the plains of Moab and camped east of the Jordan River, across from Jericho. 2 Balak son of Zippor, the Moabite king, had seen everything the Israelites did to the Amorites. 3 And when the people of Moab saw how many Israelites there were, they were terrified. 4 The king of Moab said to the elders of Midian, “This mob will devour everything in sight, like an ox devours grass in the field!”

So Balak, king of Moab, 5 sent messengers to call Balaam son of Beor, who was living in his native land of Pethor near the Euphrates River. His message said:

“Look, a vast horde of people has arrived from Egypt. They cover the face of the earth and are threatening me. 6 Please come and curse these people for me because they are too powerful for me. Then perhaps I will be able to conquer them and drive them from the land. I know that blessings fall on any people you bless, and curses fall on people you curse.”

7 Balak’s messengers, who were elders of Moab and Midian, set out with money to pay Balaam to place a curse upon Israel. They went to Balaam and delivered Balak’s message to him. 8 “Stay here overnight,” Balaam said. “In the morning I will tell you whatever the Lord directs me to say.” So the officials from Moab stayed there with Balaam.

9 That night God came to Balaam and asked him, “Who are these men visiting you?”

10 Balaam said to God, “Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent me this message: 11 ‘Look, a vast horde of people has arrived from Egypt, and they cover the face of the earth. Come and curse these people for me. Then perhaps I will be able to stand up to them and drive them from the land.’”

12 But God told Balaam, “Do not go with them. You are not to curse these people, for they have been blessed!”

13 The next morning Balaam got up and told Balak’s officials, “Go on home! The Lord will not let me go with you.”

  • Balak sent back messengers offering more and more wealth and finally Balaam decided to go
  • It is as he is going that we see the story of the Angel of the Lord being ready to strike him down but his donkey talk to him
  • In Chapter 23 – Ballam tries to curse the Children of Israel but each time he can only bless them

Numbers 24:10-13 (NLT) –  10 King Balak flew into a rage against Balaam. He angrily clapped his hands and shouted, “I called you to curse my enemies! Instead, you have blessed them three times. 11 Now get out of here! Go back home! I promised to reward you richly, but the Lord has kept you from your reward.”

12 Balaam told Balak, “Don’t you remember what I told your messengers? I said, 13 ‘Even if Balak were to give me his palace filled with silver and gold, I would be powerless to do anything against the will of the Lord.’ I told you that I could say only what the Lord says! 14 Now I am returning to my own people. But first let me tell you what the Israelites will do to your people in the future.”

  • Balaam then proceeds to tell them that Israel will destroy them and then he went home.
  • We then move into Chapter 25 and it seems like new story.

Numbers 25:1-3 (NLT) – While the Israelites were camped at Acacia Grove, some of the men defiled themselves by having sexual relations with local Moabite women. 2 These women invited them to attend sacrifices to their gods, so the Israelites feasted with them and worshiped the gods of Moab. 3 In this way, Israel joined in the worship of Baal of Peor, causing the Lord’s anger to blaze against his people.

  • We see that the Children of Israel were drawn in idol worship and sexual immorality
  • Because of this the anger of the Lord broke out against them and there was a plague that broke out among the people (the Bible said 24,000 people died)

Let’s go back to Revelation where we started…

Revelations 2:14 (ESV) –  But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice sexual immorality.

  • If you were just to read Numbers 22-4 and then Numbers 25 you would see them as totally disconnected but Revelations tells us that Balaam was actually behind what happened in Chapter 25
  • Basically, he said to Balak I can’t curse these people because they are blessed but if you can get them to start participating in sexual immorality they will step out of the blessing and curse themselves.

What does this have to do with us, and #ChoosingLife?

The trappings are different but the enemy is running the exact same play in our day and age

  • You are blessed in Christ
  • You have purpose, destiny and calling… you are called to walk into the Promise Land, join Jesus in destroying the works of the devil
  • The enemy cannot curse what God has blessed BUT if he tempt you into sexual immorality He will get you to curse yourself

What is sexual immorality?

  • God created sex as a beautiful gift
  • He created it to be shared between a man and a woman in the covenant of marriage
  • Anything outside of these lines is ’sexual immorality’
  • Sexual immorality brings you under the curse of the enemy

Let’s look at a few verses:

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (ESV) – Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

1 Thess 4:3-5 (ESV) – For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;

2 Corinthians 12:21 (ESV) – I fear that when I come again my God may humble me before you, and I may have to mourn over many of those who sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and sensuality that they have practiced.

Galatians 5:19-21 (ESV) – Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Matthew 5:28 (ESV) – But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

The answer = REPENTANCE.  Change our heart and change our mind
