Message Notes: Living to Give #04 – Leave a Legacy

A)  Today is our Breakout 2018 LEGACY Offering as well as the conclusion of our “Live to Give” series. A key theme for us this month has been legacy

B)  Legacy = something tangible that is passed from one generation to another

C)  Legacy and giving are powerfully connected – legacy is all about giving. Legacy is about sacrificing now, plowing the way, and laying a foundation so others can go further and farther

D)  Here at TCC we are experiencing the fruit of 48+ combined years of prayer, sacrifice, obedience, perseverance and giving… it’s the season to renew our focus on the legacy we will be leaving to the next generation

A)  Our Legacy = being SPIRITUAL FAMILY

1)   1 Timothy 3:15 (GWT) – “I want you to know how people who are members of God’s family must live. God’s family is the church”

2)   Psalm 68:6 (NKJV) – God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; But the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

3)   People are searching for family. People are searching for home. Part of our legacy is to be that.

B)  Our Legacy = being DEVOTED

1)   Acts 2:42 (NIV) – They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

2)   We will not be fair weather Christians who are devoted to Christ only when things are easy… we are a people who will persevere.

C)  Our Legacy = devoted to TAKING THE GOSPEL

 1)   Luke 19:10 (NIV) – For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost

2)   Mark 16:15-18 (NIV) – 15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation…

3)   We are a Rescue Ship Church

4)   We need to be devoted to the fullness of the gospel – freedom, healing, deliverance, economic empowerment

D)  Our Legacy = to touch ALL NATIONS

1)   Mark 11:17a (NIV) – And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations

2)   I believe that God wants to do something in us that will touch all nations… but we need to have a “GLOCAL” perspective.

3)   We are going to touch all nations but He has brought all nations to us. We have 50 + nations represented in TCC… why not believe God for more?

1)   We are a multicultural church and I’m thankful for that but I believe that God is calling us to lean into being intercultural

2)   Multicultural refers to a society that contains several cultural or ethnic groups. People live alongside one another, but each cultural group does not necessarily have engaging interactions with each other. … Intercultural describes communities in which there is a deep understanding and respect for all cultures.

3)   We truly are called to a house of prayer for all nations, by all nations.

A)  Luke 16:10-13 (NIV) – 10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? 12 And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own? 13 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

1)   We need to be found faithful with the “little”

2)   We need to be trustworthy in handling worldly wealth

3)   We need to serve God and not money (and power)

Message Notes: Living to Give #2 – Give and It Shall Be Given

A)  I want to talk to you about our LEGACY Breakout Offering on Sunday, June 24th

B)  Legacy = something tangible that is passed from one generation to another

C)  This year Toronto City Church is celebrating 30 years. Church Without Limits would have been celebrating its 18th Anniversary. What we are experiencing now is because there were many people who have prayed, served, been faithful, scarfed and sowed… some who are here and some who are not. They have left a legacy to us.

D)  We are coming into a new season of faith, contending, praying, sowing and sacrificing for what God wants to do in the next 30 years and we are going to pay the price now to leave a legacy for the next generation. We are going to be FUTURE focused.

E)  For the next season, our LEGACY Offering is going to focus on two key thrusts: we are going to attack our mortgage and we are going to strategically invest in key advancements.

F)   Our mortgage is currently $2.6 million. Last year we were able to take an extra $60,000 off of it and our goal is that every year we will continue to go above and beyond our regular payments to pay it down. We are believing the Lord to be debt-free. And we still have Phase 3 to build.

G)  Next week I’m going to talk about some of the other elements of this years offering.

H)  I want to call on every member of our church family to seek God and give into this special offering (above your regular tithes and offerings)

I)     We are also going to be starting the LEGACY Company – a group of people who are committed to give above and beyond in the vision/mission of TCC in a strategic way and help us push forward into the future.

A)  Today I want to talk to you about the power of giving

B)  As a young man who was growing in God, this was one of the first revelations the Lord showed me and that I walked in.

Luke 6:38 (NIV) – Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Matt 6:33 (AMP) – But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides
Mark 4:11 (NIV) – He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables

C)  Jesus said “Give and it will be given unto you, pressed down, shaken together and running over…”

D)  When I read this I have a choice: I can choose to believe it or I can choose to not believe it (whatever form that takes)

E)  It’s actually really easy to tell whether you believe it or not… you just look at your actions.

A)  I shared some of my personal journey in giving

B)  Some keys from my story:

1)   I heard the Word of God about giving and chose to believe it

2)   I listened to Holy Spirit

3)   I had to make a choice to step out on the Word of God = RISK

4)   I positioned myself to receive

C)  God is calling us to step out of the boat and to walk on the water (Matt 14:22-36)
